Veterans Visit Washington, D.C. Memorials for Washingtonian

Every year, thousands of U.S. veterans visit Washington, D.C. to experience the memorials dedicated their sacrifice and service. The veterans are part of Honor Flight Network, a non-profit organization that was established to help bring vets to the nation's capital. Honor Flight pays for travel costs and logistical support on the ground. To enhance the veterans' visit, re-enactors from Allied Airmen's Preservation Society volunteer throughout the year and welcome the vets with open arms and sometimes a big smooch.

Alaska and British Columbia with National Geographic and Lindblad Expeditions

This fall, I worked aboard the National Geographic Sea Lion, where I taught passengers photography, photo editing and storytelling. Our journey was through Alaska's Inside Passage and along the coast of British Columbia. Each day, we would search for wildlife, learn about natural history and experience unique cultural events. Several images from the expedition with National Geographic and Lindblad are below.

Cambodia and Vietnam with National Geographic and Lindblad Expeditions

Periodically throughout the year, I teach photography aboard the Lindblad and National Geographic Expeditions vessels. This year, I had the privilege of leading a group throughout Cambodia and Vietnam. We started in Siem Reap, then cruised along the Mekong River to Vietnam and ended our voyage in Ho Chi Minh City. Caregiving, Isolation Top LGBT Concerns - AARP

Carlton Smith, an HIV survivor, is a gay rights advocate in Baltimore, Maryland who spends much of his time developing a tight-knit community of friends and organizers. One of those local friends is Carlton's caregiver, and based on Maryland law, that person can make life decisions for Carlton - the program is called Caregiver Advise, Record, Enable (CARE) Act.
